(Co-Op with Muskego)

Native plant communities are vanishing from the landscape and those that exist are often severely degraded. Attendees will learn basic techniques to restore or reconstruct plant communities of woodlands, wetlands, oak savannas, and prairies.  Target audience includes landowners who wish to restore their land as well as anyone interested in helping as volunteer stewards on the hundreds of acres of city-owned conservation lands.  Enrollment includes a conservation land steward shirt, and a pack of quality native seed. Four classes include one indoor session and three field days:

  • Indoor Session - Overview of Conservation Management:
    • Wednesday, February 26
    • City Hall Meeting Room 1
  • Field Day 1 - Invasive Shrub Control
    • Wednesday March 19
    • Site to be determines
  • Field Day 2 - Prescribed Burning Demonstration
    • Wednesday, April 2 (weather dependent)
    • Site to be Determined
  • Field Day 3 - Growing Season Invasive Plant Control
    • Wednesday, May 7
    • Badertscher Preserve
